Truly unique to the Winter Park - Fraser community, the Headwaters Environmental & Community Center rises above the natural landscape in the form of a rustic, century-old timber-framed barn wrapped in its original russet pine barn siding above a locally sourced moss rock base. The barn's gable structure prominently facesUS Highway 40 in Winter Park to the West, and the pastoral views of the Fraser River and its vibrant wetlands to the East. The south wall 's massive sliding wood doors can be opened to connect the interior events space at the barn's second level to an expansive view of the Front Range. A raised exterior terrace overlooks a multipurpose events plaza with covered performance stage at grade level below. These venues are available to locals and visitors alike for music, theater, weddings, corporate engagements and civic events.

Additional amenities include a commercial / teaching kitchen, and the Higher Minds Loft - once used for hay storage, now converted into a fully-equipped distance learning space. The Headwaters Center generates and stores 100% of the energy required to operate the facility without any reliance on the local power grid. Large photovoltaic arrays on the barn roof and performance stage canopy collect solar energy which is stored in battery terminals and communicated throughout the facility from the batteries via DC bus. All of the lighting at the Headwaters Center is 12VDC, and only in some cases must DC power be inverted to AC power to run equipment such as the passenger elevator and large kitchen appliances.
